Is it really SLC or just pseudo-SLC? Just curious. I suppose it doesn't much matter.

Also, I think it's funny to see it described as "greatly over-engineered" when it's just off by 2.5x. In some context, 2.5x is a lot. In this case, I'm not really sure it is. I think being over by 10x would be a lot.

    It's pSLC. Actually heavily over-provisioned QLC: https://www.techpowerup.com/ssd-specs/solidigm-d7-...

Marketing this as SLC is false advertising and the headlines about this here and elsewhere have also been misleading. Also naming it P5810 compared to P5800X Optane gives the impression that this P5810 is somehow an upgrade to P5800X that is again false.

What is the endurance in serial writes, or in write-erase cycles for the cells combined with write block size? The random-write and DWPD metrics are rubbish, since they assume a particular pattern and algorithm to adapt to it. You cannot figure out what it means for RocksDB or SpeeDB since those have a different pattern. How about support for streams API? SSD marketing is so frustrating. You would expect that a drive aimed at enterprise users would lead with useful data. Reply
